Converting to our System
Windows95/98
| Windows 95/98 has built in Internet software. It can support the
TCP/IP protocol that the Internet uses. If your computer has never been configured to
connect to the Internet then you must make sure all the necessary items are installed. To
check for the Dial-Up Networking, double-click on the My Computer icon, it
should appear in the window on your screen. If it isnt, start at step one;
otherwise, proceed to step two. |
Step 1: Installing Dial-Up Networking
- Double click on the My Computer icon.
- Then double click on the Control Panel icon.
- Inside the Control Panel, double click on the Add/Remove Programs
icon.
- Click on the Windows Setup tab at the top of the window.
- Click on Communications from the list and press the Details
button.
- The Dial-Up Networking item should be checked, if it is not,
check it by clicking on it one time.
- Click on the OK button on the bottom of this screen, this should
return you to the Add/Remove Programs screen. Click on the OK button here as
well. At this point you may be asked for your Windows CD-ROM or disks.
Step 2: Making sure the Dial-Up Adapter & TCP/IP protocol is installed:
- Double click on the My Computer icon.
- Double click on the Control Panel icon.
- Double click on the Network icon. This should open the Network
Configuration screen.
- Verify that the TCP/IP protocol is present in the list of
installed network components, if it is skip to (e) if not follow theses steps:
- Click on ADD
- Choose Protocol from the list then click OK
- Choose Microsoft for the Manufacturer and then TCP/IP from
the list then click on OK. This should add TCP/IP to the list of installed network
components. If at any time you receive the "DHCP Client" message, click NO
- Configure the TCP/IP by double clicking on it in the list of installed
network components. This should bring up the TCP/IP property screen.
- Click on the tab that says DNS Configuration.
- If DNS is disabled click on Enable DNS
- If Host is blank type in Default.
- For Domain type in your domain name which is provided in the
table in the back of this manual.
- Under DNS Server Search Order if there are any numbers already
installed, remove them by clicking on them and then pressing the Remove button.
Enter the DNS numbers which are provided in the table in the back of this manual.
- Under Domain Suffix Search Order if there are any numbers already
installed, remove them by clicking on them and then pressing the Remove button Under
Domain Suffix Search Order type in the Domain just as you typed it in above.
- Click on the OK button, this should return you to the Network
Configuration window. Click OK here as well. At this point windows may ask you for your
Windows CD-ROM and then to restart. Click on yes to restart your computer. If at any time
you are asked to type in a Computer Name and Workgroup, just type in Your Username
for the ComputerName and your domain name for the Workgroup.
Step 3: Setting up the connection
- Double click on My Computer
- Double click on the Dial-Up Networking icon.
- If it does not automatically bring up the Make New Connection Window
double click on the icon that says Make New Connection.
- Type in Internet Services 4- You for the name of the
computer you want to dial.
- Your Modem should be displayed, click next.
- Enter the phone number you computer will call for access. This
information is provided in the chart in the back of this manual, click on Next and
then Finish. You should now see an icon named Internet Services 4- You.
Double click on this icon.
- The Connect To window should now be visible. From you account
application sheet, enter the following information.
- Enter your Username. This is the name you wrote on the
account application sheet.
- Next type in your Password EXACTLY as you have it
on your account application, your Password is case sensitive.
- After verifying that all the information you have typed in is correct
press on the Connect button to initiate the Dial Up Connection and connect to our Internet
Service. When you are connected your computer Windows will display the Connection
information. You are Done. After success fully connecting to our service simple run which
ever Browser you have installed on your computer. For more information about
configuring your Browser see our Browser Set-up section.
Browser Setup
This section describes what steps to go through in order to configure an existing
Browser for use with our system. Your Browser, either Netscape Navigator or Microsoft
Internet Explore must already be installed before continuing.
For Netscape Navigator:
How to set the Home Page:
- Select Options from the Netscape menu bar and choose General Preferences.
- For the start page make sure you have the web address: http://www.okeechobee.com this way every time
you connect to the Internet your Netscape will automatically bring up our Home Page.
How to setup E-mail:
- Select Options from the Netscape menu bar and choose Mail and News Preferences.
- Under the Identity tab make sure your E-mail address and Reply To address are correct.
They should be your username@domainname.com.
Your Username can be found on your account application and your Domain
Name is in the table in the back of this guide.
- Next click on the tab that says Servers. Make sure the Incoming Mail
Server and the Outgoing Mail Server BOTH have the correct mail
server name, which can be found in the table in the back of this guide. Your Pop Username
is your usernamewithout the Capital P. When this is complete you will be
able to send and receive your email.
For Netscape Communicator:
How to set the Home Page:
- Select Edit from the Netscape menu bar and choose Preferences.
- For the start page make sure you have the web address: http://www.okeechobee.com this way every time
you connect to the Internet your Netscape will automatically bring up our Home Page.
How to setup E-mail:
- Select Edit from the Netscape menu bar and choose Preferences.
- Click on the plus sign next to Mail and Groups to expand the view. Click on Identity and
on the right of the screen make sure you have the correct e-mail address. Your e-mail
address should be username@domainname.com
Your Username can be found on your account application and your Domain
Name is in the table in the back of this guide.
- Next click on Servers. Make sure the Incoming Mail Server and the Outgoing
Mail Server BOTH have the correct mail server name, which can be
found in the table in the back of this guide. Your Account Log-In or Username
is your username without the Capital P. When this is complete you will be
able to send and receive your email.
For Outlook Express:
How to set the Home Page:
Go to the control panel and double click on the Internet icon. On the General tab
(Navigation tab for win 95) you will see the address for the current home page. Change
what is there to http://www.servername.com
where server name is the name of the server in your area. Look in the table in the back of
this guide for that information.
How to setup E-mail:
- Select Tools from the Explorer menu bar and choose Accounts.
- Click on the Mail tab.
- Click on the Add button and select Mail to add a new mail Server
to the list. You will be asked to provide the following information:
- Your preferred name: this is your full name or initials. Click on Next
- Your email address: this is your username@domainname.com Click on Next
- Your email servers: they are POP3 servers and are pop.okeechobee.com (incoming) &
smtp.okeechobee.com (outgoing). Click on Next
- Internet Mail Login: you should have Log On Using selected and have your Username
for the POP account name and your Password for the password. Click on Next
- Friendly name should be left as what is defaulted in there. Click on Next
- Choose Connection Type: should be Connect using my phone line. Click on Next
- Select Use existing Dial-Up Connection and click on the Dial-Up Networking
connection you created in Step 3 of the Windows 95/98 setup. Click on Next
- Click on Finish, you are done!
For Internet Explorer and all other Browsers and Email Clients:
Since there are sever versions of the Internet Explorer and several e-mail programs
that have shipped with Windows 95 you wlll have to configure them yourself. The
information you will need is located in the back of this guide. You will need to set the Incoming
Mail Server and the Outgoing Mail Server and specify the account name which is
your Username.
